Todo el tiempo aconsejo leer a jackson entre líneas, fue una amante del voodoo y de la seducción que práctica durante su propia vigor hasta su prematura y "ajena" defunción. Existen relatos como siempre extraños, otros más llevaderos de analizar y otros que te sueltan como solo ella entiende hacer en ésa cuestión exquisita.

Opinión de un comprador: This Library of America volume is more of a 'best of' collection than the comprehensive survey that the series often goes in for. It offers two novels plus an original breakthrough collection of short stories and a further section chosen from other short published and unpublished work. The common theme - whether in ghost stories or indeed in pieces about family life (the story about giving birth to her third child) is living in a hostile world. The calzoncillo biographical notes tell us that this was jackson's own experience. At one time she lived in a 20 bedroom house which was 'an intellectual salon, a poker den and the site of noisy, crowded, hard drinking weekend parties' this was not conocida and it is not the only problem she has with her neighbours.
I enjoyed most the piece about the reception of her story, The Lottery - lots of hostile correspondence and some humorous touches. The major works were not particularly to my taste but I am pleased to have sampled this very different rent take on the world.

Opinión de un comprador: This is a charming and amusing insight into 1950s American family life. (they had dishwashers then unlike us backward Brits)
Shirley jackson writes beautifully with a very subtle sarcasm, especially towards her husband, who is unnamed throughout the book and simply referred to as "my husband"
But the books is not broken down into manageable chapters, just four very long sections and does become tedious. At first the children's evalúes are sweet and funny but become tiresome and annoying as do the far too long passages about the cats and dogs and ball games.
This is a great pity because when she is just airing her frustrated feelings about being an unappreciated wife and mother, it's maravilloso
Definitely worth a read

Opinión de un comprador: Shirley jackson has penned what are rightly considered some of the classics in the genre with "The Haunting of Hill House" and " We have always lived in the castle" as well as her calzoncillo story "The Lottery. "
Dark Tales is an extension of her cannon. She has the perfect ability to find the unnerving in everyday experiences, with a tone between 1950s Americana and medieval folklore.

Opinión de un comprador: Published in 1951, this is shirley jackson’s second novel. In her first, “The Road Through the Wall,” Jackson looked to her childhood for inspiration. In this, her second, she centres on a Bennington like demócrata arts school, such as the one her husband worked at. Having read a couple of biographies of Shirley Jackson, there is obviously much about both this first novels which are based upon her own experiences. There are also many hints of her future style, with afín themes running through her work, including isolation and an undercurrent of threat or violence.
Natalie Waite lives with her parents and brother (as Jackson did herself). Jackson skilfully subverts the family dynamic and some of the scenes involving her father’s lectures, or mother’s neediness, are difficult to read and yet, often, darkly funny. Something very dark happens to Natalie before she goes to college, but, as with so much in this novel, you are unsure of the true facts.
At college, Natalie fails to fit in and is viewed as odd and strange. Isolated and alone, she befriends the young wife of her English teacher. Previously a student, Elizabeth Langdon drinks too much and dislikes her husband’s students visiting and openly flirting with him. Here, you can really feel Jackson’s pen aiming at her husband. The two students, Vicki and Anne, are truly vicious and cause the new Mrs Langdon a great deal of unhappiness. Meanwhile, both her husband, and Natalie’s father, demonstrate how much the men in Natalie’s life like to talk at her, but refuse, stubbornly, to hear what she is saying.
While Jackson lived at Bennington, it is said she was partially inspired by the story of Paula Jean Weldens disappearance in mil novecientos cuarenta y seis and also wrote a story linked to this, “The Missing Girl,” which I would like to read, to asemeje. There is also a true crime book about the case available: “Clueless in New England: The unsolved disappearances of Paula Welden, Connie Smith and Katherine Hull”, by Michael C. Dooling.
As events in this novel escalate, things go missing from the girls dorm rooms, and Natalie meets a new friend, the rather spooky, Tony. However, it is difficult to know what is concreto and what is imagined, as you have a true sense of impending doom. This may not be the best of Jackson’s noels, but it is certainly worth reading.

The edition is very thin, once pages, but the quality in paper and print is what I expected from Penguin, quite good.
I highly recommend this calzoncillo story, it's creepy but at the same time has a tremendous critical background. Definitively, I'll buy more books from this author.

Opinión de un comprador: El manual no tiene DE FORMA PLENA nada que mirar con el proceso de Nerflix. Es más, la adaptación al cine de este texto es “The Haunting/El cubil” de 1999. Lo comento para evitar que algún lo compre con expectativas de localizar similitudes con la película. El tomo no esta dolor, es divertido.

Progressivement, une fois encore après "Hauting house", S. Jackson nous trompe mediodía la nature des relations existant entre ces deux soeurs ainsi que mediodía leurs psychologies. Tout n'est que semblant, apparence, tromperie. Leur étrangeté anime la curiosité, l'inquietude et la fascination. Elles sont seules et souhaitent le rester car pensent elles, c'est bien l'exterieur qui est étrange, inquiétant et dangereux. Mais la folie se révèle progressivement car elle règne puissamment sud le château: En est elle une émanation de cette demeure gothique ou bien ces soeurs toxiques empoisonnent elles l'atmosphère igual leur présence? Et à l'pedir de " Hauting House" elles demeurent dans ce château à jamais, à jamais.
