Opinión de un comprador: I completely agree with the major premise of this book. I have been a college teacher at some level (with occasional productive concreta profesional jobs) since mil novecientos cincuenta y siete and am still teaching graduate aerospace engineering classes at age 87. The author does posit that STEM and professional programs in accounting, law, and medicine are worth the time spent and the cost but that nothing much else in higher education is. Colleges have multiplied worthless majors like Afro-American Studies, Feminist Studies, Women‘s Studies, Gender Studies, Hispanic Studies, Chicano Studies, Marijuana Studies, and now Fat Studies simply to garner borrowed student loan funds from student who otherwise could not qualify for (or would not be interested in going to) college. These students are wasting their time only to graduate with a worthless despacho (if they graduate at all), no employment opportunities, and a mountain of debt. The value of a STEM education from a college may soon be at risk as well. The “woke” crowd is now claiming that mathematics is racist and we need to develop a whole new engineering curriculum that does not employ mathematics. Well, that’s not going to happen, is it? Most of my teaching has been in mathematics and engineering at the graduate level, which means that at least cuarenta% of my students have been from developing countries. I do not remember ever having an African STEM graduate student who was not able to handle whatever mathematics he or she needed. Mathematics is not racist! However, I will admit to having a graduate degree in mathematics and that mathematics is definitely harder than other fields of study.

Opinión de un comprador: I bought the Kindle version of this book on recommendation - about half of it I would say I was aware of but I’m not being complacent here. The other half was definitely worth buying it for. Written for the US market it would be good to see a version written for the UK but then the scams would work much the same, but the names of the various agencies would change. Worth reading if you want to improve your awareness and foresight and, of course, improve your security.

Opinión de un comprador: Having been ripped off by a few of these FM broadcast issues, especially the recent Joni Mitchell Shadows and Light, I was a little wary about this. However, on a state of the art hi fi I can assure you that this is a great sounding release. The jazzed up renditions of The Royal scam pieces are lovely, especially with the female backing vocalists, who really add extra dimensions to these songs. The band is as tight as you would expect.
I've been Proporcionan fan since mil novecientos setenta y cuatro and I'm very happy with this recording.

Opinión de un comprador: I found some of the chapters in this otherwise excellent book flowed less well than other work Ernst has written, and I think the book would have benefitted from the input of a good line impresor (e. G. On the first page of Chapter one “it is” is double written as a typo). But then that can be said of so many books. Good editors are expensive and a rarity. However, this is a minor detail and that means I have awarded the book five stars nonetheless for the following reasons.
This book gives its readers a good grounding in understanding the facts about so called alternative medicine (scam). The book does not pack out simply to explore the arguments for and against SCAM. Instead it does do that but then it also does something far more powerful, scholarly and informative. Namely, it lets you know about the expert systematic reviews and double-blind trials that have already proved the clear majority of it ineffective as anything other than a placebo. In other words, the book is a powerhouse of ranking references to support the rational argument against the irrational use of SCAM.
So called alternative medicine is a scam. Fools and their money are easily parted. Ernst does not appear to think his book capable of converting most of the fools and con artists who deploy SCAM on the public. The book may, however, stop other people from being fooled by them. His aim is to make the world a better and safer place.
This book is extremely useful for those just starting out to try to find out more about the difference between scientifically proven versus ineffective (and as Ernst reveals oftentimes harmful) quack cures. Moreover, SCAM reveals also the details of how its author has been harassed at his university by dishonest supuesto-scholars and quacks who did so - because unable to argue fully, honestly and properly with the bombshell new data he had on them - they attempted maliciously to discredit him personally in order to hide the facts. This área of the book appeals to me as a fellow victim of such failed attempts by university academics, no less, harassing me and others for my own published research into Darwin's and Wallace's plagiarism. In my case, the harassment has been so persistent that one, among several of the offenders, was fired by Edinburgh University for his disreputable, fallacious and malicious supuesto-scholarly libellous conduct in persistently harassing those associated with my original research discoveries. He now obsessively edits a supuesto-scholarly, full of errors and falsehoods, Wikipedia page about me and another, full of falsehoods, about Patrick Matthew and my published research in the field. In addition, he has written endless fallacious, nut-job poison pen, criminal harassment cyberstalking, emails to senior academics at my university and elsewhere.
I think it important to gather as many examples of such disreputable and disgusting conduct - and how universities and other organisations and individuals encourage, facilitate and otherwise respond to it - as possible. Hence, SCAM provides essential data on this topic also.
